Can Weddings be Dark & Moody... I say YES YES!!

Amy9 Comments

Okay- so I recently had a bride come to me and want a concept for her wedding, that was elegant, high-end yet dark and moody.. Her vision for her wedding is candles, low lighting, eggplant, ivory and black as the colors. So I created this challenging concept.. Ooh.. Feathers, Gold, textured Fabric.... mmmm Opulent!

The Importance of Branding & Advertising- PART I

Amy2 Comments
After hearing of some of the sad closures of some of my favorite boutiques around this area, and hearing of the struggles of many small business owners these days, I've decided to blog on something I know a little about! Advertising, and Branding. For those of you who don't know before I started The 2u Collection I worked first as a graphic artist, then later as an art director in both In-house and Independent Advertising & Marketing Agencies. I did this for the last 10 years so I have quite a bit of experience designing collateral and Ads for all kinds of different industries. And most recently in the last 2 years (in addition to my invitations) I've really specialized my Advertising work to the Wedding Industry. Being a Vendor in the Wedding Industry has given me a unique and intimate perspective on this industry and has helped me create unique, more specialized branding and ad pieces to help my Wedding Vendor Clients reach their proper audience.

But enough about that, what I really want to write about is HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO DEVELOP YOUR BRAND IN THE WEDDING INDUSTRY!!

So let's start with the basics-- What is a BRAND?? an organization's brand identity represents how the company wants to be perceived in the market, what a company stands for and most importantly what the company promises to its clients.

Why develop a BRAND?? To set your company above your competition and create brand recognition in the audiences' eyes. (In this case brides, you want to create a buzz and image around your company which will spark recognition in the bride's mind and cause her to choose you out of the sea that is your competition!)This Brand Recognition will also Legitimize you to Potential Clients, Publications and Fellow Colleagues!

HOW do I as a business owner, create BRAND RECOGNITION?? As most of you know the wedding industry is saturated with many, many, many talented and amazing wedding professionals.
So how do you set yourself apart?

Create, Develop and Fine tune both the image and message you put out there. Now I know in these tough times that it can be difficult to allocate the dollars to your own Branding and Ad materials. But I am here to tell you, the one thing I've learned over the years is the companies that continue to Advertise and get their name out there during the slow economic times, are the ones that grow leaps and bounds when things start to turn around. Afterall, that is the point of a Brand to affect your bottom line!

So here are 5 financial benefits to Developing a Strong Brand Identity. (you all must excuse the car references, my husband has brain washed me.. :)

1. Brand Identity commands a Price-Premium. Why is someone willing to pay thousands of dollars more for a Lexus than for a Toyota? They are virtually the same product, minus the add on options and accessories. They are made by the same manufacturer, and they even share parts. It's because the BRAND of the Lexus is WORTH MORE in the minds of the consumer, regardless of whether the product actually functions better.

2. A Price-Premium creates the "PERCEPTION" of quality. This follows the old saying "You get what you pay for." If Product A costs more than Product B it must be because Product A is of better quality. Right? Well, not necessarily. Customers Pay more for what they PERCEIVE to be a better or higher quality BRAND! But at the same time, if you don't deliver on your "Quality" promise- there won't be BRAND Loyalty, and therefore your brand recognition will deteriorate.

3. Perceived quality has been shown to Positively Affect Customer usage. Consumers tend to select brands they perceive to be quality brands. This also connect to repeat clients, otherwise known as BRAND loyalty! Clients tend to continue to buy brands that reward them with a good experience and quality. They also tend to REFER Brands as part of that loyalty.

4. Clients relate VALUE with QUALITY
. If one brand is perceived to be of higher quality than another brand, clients tend to perceive that the higher-quality brand is a better VALUE.

5.
Perceived Quality can be a point of differentiation. Successful companies are continually looking for ways to differentiate their brand from the competition. Perceived quality can be used to set your company and its services apart from your competition, which then loops back to #1- enabling the company to charge a premium for their strong BRAND.

Now what does this mean to the normal small business. This means that if you can BRAND yourself, your company, your product or your services-- you will set yourself apart from your competition, and over time your brand will strengthen-- which in turn will bring Higher Premiums to your Product or Service. But keep in mind.. it's not just smoke and mirrors-- the truly successful BRANDS not only "talk to the talk, they walk the walk" and deliver everything their BRAND promises!

Next week I will blog Part 2, and it will cover how to start the branding process of your company and get your Identity recognizable!

A Testimonial from Susan Southerland with Just Marry: (we've been working to re-brand her company for the last year) Amy has such a keen eye for brand imaging. Recently, I have had to develop three logos which fall under the same brand. Amy was able to make each logo convey its own message and they all coordinated beautifully. Brand recognition is so important for success these days. It is very important to have a graphic artist who understands your company vision to create these images. Amy just gets it!

A Holiday Wedding In Charleston!

AmyComment

So I know it's March and by now I should have had these images posted, but you know I feel like I blinked and it went from January to April.. So forgive me Jennifer and Zachary.

Last fall I took on a project in conjunction with Ines Del Mar Weddings Magazine to create invitations and menus for a feature wedding they were doing.. The colors were silver and black, the bride requested dramatic and moody, yet couture, stylish and design forward.. So I put on my cap. We used Swarovski Crystals, Black Ribbon, Silver Metallic and Black Touché papers. Everything came out beautifully.

The Magazine, Bride and Groom and myself were all very happy with the result! Below is even the praise I received from the bride for my website! This was a not amazing to design- I am excited the invitations will be in the next issue of Ines Del Mar Weddings Magazine!

Testimonial from the Bride:
Our invitations meant a great deal to my fiancé and I; they are the first impression to the big day. Honestly, I had no idea what I wanted my invitations to look like, but I knew that I wanted them to be one of a kind and extraordinary. Amy was the easiest vendor that we worked with during our entire event. I told her our colors and the general wedding theme and she delivered the invitation of our dreams! It was a perfect piece of art! The invitation brought both our mothers to actual tears. The craftsmanship, quality, and attention to detail are truly five star! Everything that she chose to use was above and beyond what we had in mind. Our family and friends left us countless messages just to tell us how marvelous our invitations were. After we saw the invitations we knew that we had to have her do our menu cards. Just as the invitation was the first impression to the wedding, the menu cards are the first impression to dinner. Our guests loved the stellar detailed menu card and loved how it mirrored our invitations. We cannot say enough about The 2u Collection! If you are looking for invitations that are unforgettable and people who are exceptional…then The 2u Collection is for you.

Website Teaser!

Amy2 Comments

I'll make this short. It's a teaser afterall! Heather and I have been working tirelessly on our new website design. As most of you know, when you do something for a living, your own get's ignored.. Ummmm.. The plumber with leaky pipes, and the roofer who get's wet when it rains.. Well, sometimes i get so caught up and excited in my client work that it's easy to put my own stuff off.. So the current website is a victim.. It was put up over a year ago in a weekend rush. Finally, Heather and I have spent the time to feel proud and excited about our own voice to the public. We will get to showcase all of the great work that we are proud of that we have accomplished in the last 6-8 months! April 15th is the Launch date! But in the meantime.. here is a teaser of the new home page!

Hope you like!

WINNERS!! WINNERS!!

AmyComment
Better late than never!! I got caught up in paper, so I apologize for not blogging this sooner!! The winners of the Warm and Fuzzy Paper Couture Contest.. Susan Southerland of Just Marry!! Even though her favorite and most relied upon co-worker is growing and moving forward in her career, Susan still had these great things to say:

I nominate Michele Butler. Eleven years ago we were strangers. Since then she has grown to be not only my right hand, but my closest friend, confidant and best cheerleader. She is about to embark on a new adventure career-wise, and I would be remiss if I didn't mention what an amazingly gifted wedding planner and manager she is. I will miss working with her everyday. Fortunately, cocktails on the weekends will be never ending. :-)

Great job ladies for sharing the love for so many years!! Expect your Paper Couture goodies to arrive soon!!

Mr. & Mrs. Dixon! It's Official.

Amy2 Comments

So this blog entry will be a bit more detailed than I normally do. If you follow this blog you know this wedding was more special than the excitement of creating unique wedding collateral. (you can click the link at the end of this blog to read the first pre-wedding blog). Not only did I get carte blanche on the design of this project, this was the wedding of my close friends Robyn and Andrew Dixon! The happy couple is pictured below!

Because my husband and I are close with the bride and groom we had the pleasure of being involved in this wedding from engagement to vows. This was exciting for many reasons, I got to see this amazing wedding go from concept and dreaming to reality.. This was mainly due in part to the hard work of both Robyn and Lisa Konecny from E-Events Design. Due to Andrew's British heritage, Robyn wanted to get married at their home with an English Garden Theme. Lisa did an amazing job on making this fantasy become a beautiful event. This is her below working on some final touches!

These 2 ladies cooked up some pretty clever and unique ideas to really blend the American and English heritages of both the bride and groom. Robyn borrowed several sets of antique china from various family members, And it made for beautiful tables, and as you can see above tea time during cocktail hour before the wedding.

And because of the English Garden theme, there were yard games, and outdoor seating areas to really get guests into the theme.

Moores Fine Foods created amazing cuisine for the event, plated dinners of filet and ahi tuna were served to guests on mix and match china patterns.

Below is where the happy couple said their vows, and because I'm close with the couple I know Andrew poured his heart and soul into this "wedding deck." He built this deck with his own 2 hands and not much help from anyone else. I can assure you it was hard work, he even had to clear out the forest to make room to build it.

And Lisa had a great idea, to take a chandelier from the house and hang it over the deck for a romantic touch. It was an amazing effect, and later when the deck became the dance floor, it made for great pictures!

Once the vows were said and Robyn and Andrew became "The Dixon's" it was time for dinner, this was exciting for me, because I created and designed several of the pieces, from menus to escort cards, table numbers and much more. Once I learned the theme of the wedding and heard robyn was thinking of using doves in a nest as a cake topper my mind started working. I came up with an idea of making the escort cards in the shape of birds that were placed in 2 topiary plants. Above is the end result and below is a more detailed studio shot of the birds. And I must say they were a big hit!

Some detailed shots of the menus, place cards and table numbers on the tables, and below a studio shot of the menu. it was 2 sided, and they were placed on the tables rotating which side was up. Made for great pictures!

The tables looked amazing, and let's not forget the florals-- by Flowers of Winter Park!

One more thing that I created for this wedding that is not only unique but a sentimental replacement for the guest book. In Lieu of a Guest Book, we at The 2u Collection
created wish cards. I supplied a beautiful silver and teal keepsake box. We designed and produced Wish Cards that guests wrote their wishes for the couples future. This ensures in the years to come the bride and groom can re-live there special day over and over as they read the special notes from their friends and family!

Extremely stylish and beautiful not to mention delicious cake by Cakes by Design.

And lastly, I designed Thank yous, to match all the other collateral of the event.. With Kindness and Gratitude is the message the bride and groom will send thanks to all of their guests!

A great day had by all, and I wish my great friends all the happiness they can stand! And I am touched they included me in their special event not only as a friend but the designer in me loves them for giving me so much freedom to imagine their project with no limits!

XOXO to you both!

And a special thanks to Lisa of E-Events.. This was our first official wedding together and I really enjoyed working with her. To all of the other vendors-- as a guest I must say-- you all did an amazing job and I look forward to working with you all in the future!

(special thanks to Liga Photography -- Abby shot all of the studio shots of the collateral!)

I've said it so much at this point you all are probably are sick of it.. I love Abby Liga (of Liga Photography).. Not only is she one of my BFF's personally and as a business colleague, she is amazing talented.. Blah, Blah, Blah.. I know she will appreciate my Blah, Blah, Blah.. she's amazing with a lens, light, and camera and these are just more examples to prove it... She took my first bio shots, in 2006-- photographed my husband and I in 08 (see Look what Abby Liga did), and now it's 09 and time for new professional bio shots. Also, I've mentioned before Heather Campbell, my right
hand.. amazing gal who throws her heart in soul into 2u, also needed some photography to mark the fact she has 2u in her blood whether she likes it or not! :)

So here's a sneak peek at some of the amazing shots she got. And when I say amazing.I mean AMAZING!! She will tell you everytime I am crazy uncomfortable in front of the camera, and thank goodness for me.. she works around it and makes me look like a movie star!!

A few of us goofing around and a few of the real deal..

Thanks Abby!! As always you make me look way better than I do in real life! And below a quick homage to Lisa from E-events.. we all thought she'd love our shoes!!

Cleanse Bath and Body Ad Work!

Amy2 Comments

Long overdue.. In the beginning of 2008 I started working with Maggie of Cleanse Bath & Body. I have blogged about her before.. She is another creative soul. She has created these amazing Bath & Body Products. Do I not only LOVE these products, I give them as gifts and try to share them with my brides when I can!

Maggie asked me to help her develop her brand, so she could start properly marketing her products!
She had a good start though, her products are featured in the World-Famous Henri Bendel's in New York City.

We started with a logo (above) and then wanted to move onto the catalog design. As I've said before, Advertising really works when the imagery can sell the product. So off to my favorite photographer I went! Abby Liga of Liga Photography really made this product come to life! Below you can see just a few of the amazing photographs. And below that are some more pics of the catalog, signs, and collateral I designed.

Charitable Deeds!

Amy2 Comments
I am always trying to find ways to lend a hand to the community and help those organizations that are doing good for others.. I've had the pleasure lately to work with a few different organizations. The Boys & Girls Club of Central Florida and Frontier Civitan. Thanks to Cristina of CCH Marketing & Events, I have been able to do some great work for both of these charities. I am not only proud of the work, but of the fact, that each of these events have been fun and rewarding!

At the end of 2008, The Boys and Girls Club had an event to raise money for a new playground for the children. I was asked to design, create and produce invitations that would get donors to purchase tickets to the event raising money for this playground! I used Metallic Paper, and Ribbon to create something beautiful, yet also affordable. Below are some pics.. We created an initial Eblast, Invitation, a Sponsor Packet and Programs for the evening.

And to start 2009 off right, Cristina and I are working together again on collateral for Frontier Civitan's 7th Annual Charity Fundraiser. Last year I donated product to the Silent Auction, this year I hope to do the same, in addition to creating all the eblasts, sponsor packets, invitations, tickets, programs, etc.

This years event will be a Casino Night with proceeds benefiting the Florida District Junior Civitan clubs (located in middle and high schools) and local area charities in need such as BASE Camp, Coalition for the Homeless, Down Syndrome Association, Ronald McDonald House and many more. Proceeds also benefit the Civitan International Research Center (located in Birmingham, AL) to facilitate research and therapy, the primary focus of which is the treatment and prevention of mental retardation and developmental disabilities. Frontier Civitan has been providing service to the local community since 1974.

Invitations are still in production stages for this March event, but below are some images of the sponsor packet. I will share the rest when the event is over and collateral has been photographed.

As always.. Photography is by the great Abby Liga, of Liga Photography. I should mention she also lent her photography expertise to the November Boys & Girls Club Event by photographing the event.

A Summer of Lavished Lingerie!!

AmyComment

Obviously way overdue.. But the summer of 2008 was fun for numerous reasons. A big one.. Lavish Boutique! Thanks to my friend, Cristina of CCH Marketing. I met Jennifer of Lavish Boutique located in HANNIBAL SQUARE of Winter Park. She asked me to help her and Cristina further develop the Lavish brand! We needed photography, collateral, events (which of course Cristina had covered!)

Over the course of the summer The 2u Collection designed and developed the Brand for a Direct Mail Postcard, A Lingerie Rack Card, A Lingerie Party Invite, Business Cards, A Gift Card Holder, Eblasts, and much more. (some printed pieces pictured above) Jennifer and have I built such a relationship that we have not only became friends, but we have participated in several events together and my Paper Couture Stationery line even sells in her Boutique!

Advertising Collateral just isn't as effective without GREAT photography-- and of course my photography go to gal? Abby Liga of Liga Photography. We scheduled a photoshoot which I got to art direct. (but see below all of the genius goes to Abby!) Here are some behind the scenes and a few of the amazing results Abby got that day! All the collateral I discuss in this blog just wouldn't be as good without Abby's photography contribution. She's not just a Wedding Photographer you know.. Pretty genius on many levels that girl! (oh and did I mention Abby shot all of the collateral photography also!

All of the ladies I have mentioned in this blog are great friends and savvy business women. I am proud to be lucky enough to be involved in various projects with them all!

Look What We Accomplished!

AmyComment

If you are a follower of this blog you know I'm a huge fan of Liga Photography. Abby is not only my friend, but an incredible photographer! She has photographed my husband and I, we have shared
brides on a few occasions, and have spent the last year working together on various collaborative efforts!

I must say, what I am most proud of is how far we have come as individuals, growing our businesses, and the collaborative partnership we have built. And lucky for me the feeling is mutual, because she has trusted me with the look, feel and design of her business! In 2008 we decided we would work together-- she would photograph all of my invitations and product and I would start developing the brand of Liga Photography! Trust me when I tell you we had no idea we would accomplish so much together in 2008. We had a party together, Photographed my Catalog of Work, Designed and Created her Brand and Collateral, ... and so much more!

I wanted to share with you some of the amazing collateral piece The 2u Collection created for Abby this year. The picture at the top is an overview of all the work (shot of course by Abby herself).

Presentation Kit (pictured above, detail shots below)-24 page booklet containing information about Liga and some of her Amazing Photography. Printed on Classic White Linen Paper- embellished with a salmon pink belly band with gold foil accents and bound with gold elastic ribbon.

Bridal Gift (pictured above, detail shots below) -10 Blank Notecards with Matching Pink Metallic Envelopes. This tin was created as a gift for abby's brides. The notecards are a combination of white and espresso brown furniture finish paper, with die punch where abby's black and white photography shines through. White Eyelets and Ribbon embellish each card. With quotes from some of abby's favorite photographers. There are 4 unique designs in each tin, 4 different photographer quotes, and 4 distinct Liga Images!

Vendor Thank You Card (pictured above) -Thank you note Abby sends to fellow vendors she does work with in the industry! A faded back Black and White Liga Image printed on Photo Paper, Attached to Espresso Brown Furniture Finish Paper, finished with a pink metallic belly band- with a gratitute quote on it. She slides the belly band down, writes a quick note.. In the envelope and off it goes!

Business Card & Anniversary Card (pictured above) -The anniversary card is interesting. I designed it to follow the brand, and left a space on the front, so she can affix an image of the bride and groom from their wedding, and send it a year later as a Happy Anniversary Treat!

Other things pictured in the group shot above are: Gift Card Holder & Holiday Card. I hope you enjoy it all. And Abby, Thanks for letting me do so much work for you. It's been fun and challenging.

In the Garden.. Robyn & Andrew will Wed!

AmyComment

So this one is close to my heart! I am not only excited about this invitation because the project has been fun and Fabulous, but the Bride and Groom are close to my heart! Robyn Thomas and Andrew Dixon have been great friends of my husband and I for the last 4 or 5 years. In fact, I was the one who said all along they would end up together, and with my husband's persuasive game of Elimidate.. The rest is history..

This project has been fun and I'm so proud of it for several reasons! I get to work with one of my closest friends, she pretty much let my imagination go wild, and it challenged me in more ways than one. And of course I'm getting to work with the amazing Lisa Konecny of E-events.. What more could I ask for! (and special thanks to Abby Liga of Liga Photography for once again making my work look amazing! Heather, I haven't forgotten you either, without you these crazy ideas of mine would be dead in the water!)

The Wedding will take place on February 28th, so I have to keep alot of things we are doing secret until after the wedding, but I can share with you the invitations and save the dates!

They are having a small affair of about 75 people to their home to get married in their English Garden! So the invitations needed to reflect both Robyn's style and Andrew's English heritage. So off I went, with pretty much no other guidelines than that.. Robyn, for that I thank you.. A designers dream..
FREE REIGN.

So off I went, with Classic White Linen Paper, English Rose Accent Paper, And Pastel Green Linen Envelopes.. So far so good.. Then I found this amazing ribbon, sheer, with leaves and flowers imprinted on it in this perfect earthly green color.. And let's not forget the Antiqued Brass Rose Button, that I used as an embellishment! It's all coming together now.. So after I spent some time with.. It all became clear, and Photographed below is the result.. We've had great feedback and both Robyn and Andrew loved both the Save the Dates, and Invitations!

Again, this is just a teaser, there are a few other innovative things I've tried for this wedding that I've never done before, and the result.. I must say I'm proud of myself for pulling it off. But MUMMS the word.. I can keep a secret, be sure March 1st I will blog first thing, with images and details from the reception and post wedding collaterall!

Look what Abby Liga (Liga Photography) did!

Amy1 Comment

Really quick.. I just want to give props to my good friend Abby Liga for giving my husband and I a fun-filled portrait session.. Abby at Liga Photography recently shot portraits of my husband and I.. Since we eloped we really have never had any amazing images taken of the two of us. That and we both really feel uncomfortable in front of a camera. So I know Abby-- it was painful and I thank you, because if this sneak peek is any indication you did the impossible! I don't think my husband has ever been photographed without his signature "Morelli Cheesy Grin!" Congrats, you did it! We look great!! Check them out.. And be sure to check out Liga Photography if you ever need amazing imagery of you or your family!!

Go Green for the Holidays!!

AmyComment

So this is an event that I am getting to participate in for the 2nd year in a row. It was great fun last year and my products were well received! My Paper Couture Stationery Line sells in the Cottage Industry Co-op
located on Edgewater Drive in College Park! It is an interesting concept that gives back to the community! There are probably around 30 local designers now. And each designer pays a small amount of rent and works a 4 hour shift a week. In return they get a small area to display and sell there unique product.. There is everything there from paper products, to pottery, to custom jewerly, to bath and body stuff.. I have met many great designers there and made some great friends..

In and effort to get the word out I'm going to start picking a designer a month and blog a bit about them.. This time I'm choosing One Lucky Baby! Erin Vertolli is the designer and creator of these unique and stylish Baby Items... Erin and I met a year ago when we both started participating in the Cottage Industry Co-op. Not only did Erin and I go to the same college (in Illinois), a crazy fact we found out months after participating in the co-op together, she is great and her son Vegas is my bud! I love her stuff so much I've had her make baby blankets for my girlfriends who are expecting, artist smocks for my twin nephews and I've even bribed her to make some of the little girl cooking aprons in my size..

Check out Erin's Stuff and Don't forget to Go Green for the Holidays.. This thursday!!
